At CMC Tuning we are able to strip lots of unnecessary weight from cars to give the vehicle more responsive handling and better overall performance.

As cars get newer, they have more and more onboard safety equipment to try and protect the lives of the driver, passengers and other road users and pedestrians. These safety features (ABS, ESP, traction control, heavy crashbars, more airbags than you can shake a stick at, etc) all mean more weight. For example, the legendary Clio Williams from the early 90s weighed in at at just over 1000kg - a Clio 197 weighs 1250kg!

Stripping weight from any car generally means they're much louder and less practical, but also means they handle better and are much more fun to drive.

We strip out rear seats, parcel shelves, carpet, sound deadening, floor tar, roof linings, inner panel skins, interior doorcards, dash sections, spare wheels, wheel cages, jacks, toolkits etc. We can also supply and fit lightened replacement items such as carbon fibre or fibreglass doorcards, bootlids, bonnets etc, to save even more weight and give any stripped out track or race car a more purposeful look when it's decked out with lightweight carbon fibre parts.

We're well known now for fitting bucket seats to cars, which (when a standard seat is weighed down with airbags, seatbelt pretensioners and heating systems) can at times weigh three quarters less.

Taking all of the carpet and sound deadening out of a car can sometimes save 50kg, which is bound to lead to a significant gain in the overall feel of the car, giving much more driver feedback. We remove carpet from anywhere within the car, but in a careful manner which means that it could be re-installed if necessary. We also can install a self adhesive black grip-tape on the floorplan (similar to that found on the top of skateboards) for extra grip.
